Primal Power

The Primal Powers or Primal Energies are the six basic elements that compose and govern the universe. They include four kinds of matter (Fire, Water, Earth, and Air) and two forces (Logic and Life).

Manipulation

The manipulation of primal energies is oftentimes called "magic." Not every race has the ability to manipulate primal energy, and even then, most require some form of focus or reagents to aid them in their technique, such as Draken and their spellslingers using pistols to cast magic.

Primal Pattern

A Primal Pattern is the ratio, concentration and manner in which the primal powers mix and interact to form an object or creature. In a way it is similar to a genetic code in that it is distinct and specific to each and every thing, but it is not limited to living beings. A lifeless mineral has a primal pattern just as a jabbit or Draken does. It can be considered, for all intents and purposes, someone or something's "soul," the unique composition of energies that make it what it is.

A primal pattern can be painfully extracted for a variety of reasons, chief among them cloning. A primal pattern extraction does not usually kill the extracted being.

Pure Form

Primal Energies are extremely dangerous in pure form, but have a variety of uses, chief among them as power sources.

Primal Fire

Primal Fire resembles a flame that never goes out. It is useful for cleansing taint, and aiding in the proliferation of life through its light and warmth.

Primal Water

Primal Water resembles a bubble of water that rumbles and boils. It often floats in mid-air. It is an extremely dangerous, volatile, and unpredictable substance; most experiments and technology with it tends to kill the users through explosions, or the gradual poisoning of the environment. The Ikthians have so far been the only known race capable of harnessing its power.

Primal Earth

Primal Earth resembles a thick, dense cloud of dust revolving around a ball of shifting rock.

Primal Air

Primal Air resembles violent cyclones. The Falkrin use them extensively in their magic and technology, as do the Pell. It also manifests in the form of thunderclouds, and wisps of crackling electricity.

Primal Logic

Primal Logic resembles glowing green strings of binary code. It is oftentimes found with machines, and especially materials that have the ability to manipulate or change other substances, such as large pools of Omni-plasm.

Primal Life

Pure Primal Life resembles a glowing green ball of throbbing energy. It usually infuses itself into organisms, causing obscene amounts of growth, mutations, or even rendering some beings immortal.

Notable Phenomena and Substances

Though all things are composed of primal energies, there are some that have very interesting properties, and some areas that have unique properties thanks to the primal power in the area.

Materials

Exanite

Composed of all six primal energies, Exanite is one of the toughest, rarest, and most sought after substances in the galaxy. Pure Exanite, identified by its pure white colour, is a perfect balance of all six primal powers is nigh indestructible and almost impossible to find; only the Eldan have been known to have used this substance with regularity.

Even the slightest imbalance in the elemental composition will seriously degrade the quality of Exanite. Impure crystals will take a tint related to the dominant power (red/orange/yellow for fire, blue for water, and so on).

The substance is most famously used as the cores of Mechari, containing their primal patterns, their processing power, and their thoughts. It is also used in sacred artefacts of the Dominion, such as the sword of Azrion.

Loftite

Found most abundantly in Algoroc, these blue crystals are infused with so much Primal Air they render nearby objects almost weightless. Tracts of land that have abundant deposits of loftite have been known to get ripped straight off the ground, becoming a floating island.

The substance is highly sought after for its myriad of uses; it can be used as a fuel, for space travel, or even just for recreation. Particularly hungered for are pure loftite crystals, easily differentiated by their purple colour.

Accelerite

Usually found in Deradune, this bright red crystal is infused with intense amounts of Primal Life. Any living being that comes into contact with will have their metabolism and body processes rapidly accelerated; the most obvious effect of this is a super speed, allowing someone to clear a long distance for a vehicle, on foot, in mere seconds.

Locations

Whitevale

With thanks to its proximity to the Focus of Water, Whitevale is either a warm, almost tropical paradise, or a frozen hell-hole. The seasons fluctuate almost as often as primal water, which often catches huge swathes of the local fauna and flora unawares.

Wilderrun

Thanks to the closeness of the Focus of Life, Wilderrun is brimming with gigantic, healthy fauna and flora. Its guardians the Torine are also immortal, with thanks to the water of the Everpool, which grants its drinkers eternal life.
